Grey Grid Sweep, 2019 | Berkeley, CA

Dyptich, each 24x30,” Gouache on watercolor paper

An experiment in marking time and the organic nature of each moment of existence. For the piece on the (viewer’s) left, I began the mark making in the bottom right corner. For the piece on the (viewer’s) right, I began the mark making in the bottom left corner. The same one, short brushstroke was used to create each mark. This piece records the innate imperfection in the human effort to become mechanized and precise, the change and vulnerability of life recorded in each aberration of mark; like the rings of a tree recording what happened to the tree that year. Six months of my life are recorded in these pieces.
